Obituary for Alvina Elena Valentine

Beloved Alvina Elena Valentine, who spent a lifetime of service to others, passed from this life August 12, 2017. Born on October 7, 1941 in Mazeikiai Raj., Lithuania, she was a graduate of St. Bernard’s School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, and devoted more than 40 years to the health care field as a registered nurse, proving it truly impossible to know how many hundreds or thousands of lives she touched through her career. She is preceeded in death by her husband, George J. Valentine, father Domas Dobravalskis, mother Vale Jucius Dobravalskis, and survived by first cousins, Helen Juozapavicius Goldner, Vale Girdvainiene, and Justinas Jucevicius of Lithuania, and their children, the late Jim Just and Aloysius Juozapavicius, and their children. She especially loved angels, perhaps because of the work she did for the sick, and a suitable description of the importance of her service to the profession might be found in the words of the late Physician William Osler, who observed that a trained nurse is “one of the greatest blessings of humanity, taking a place beside the physician and the priest.” Her surviving family members find comfort today in the words of Hebrews1:14 “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to save those who inherit salvation?” Alvina’s committal services will take place Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery in Chicago, Il. Petkus & Son Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. 800-994-7600 or www.petkusfuneralhomes.com
